Cooktop Repair — Book a Visit Today

A cooktop quits in small ways first. One burner clicks forever. An induction zone drops out mid-boil. A gas flame goes yellow and leaves soot on the pan. Under the glass or the grates, the usual suspects are spark modules, igniter electrodes, gas valves, induction coils and their control boards, radiant elements, and touch panels that stop reading fingers. Our visit starts with the symptom you describe, then moves to power, gas supply, and the actual part doing the failing. We work on gas, electric radiant, and induction units from all major brands, as an independent shop. Sacramento heat and hard-water spatter both age these things faster than people expect. Call us and describe what the burner does.

Cooktop Repair — residential cooktop being serviced

The cooktop symptoms we hear most

  • "It clicks and clicks but never lights" Spark module, wet or cracked igniter electrode, or a clogged burner port
  • "The flame is orange and my pans are turning black" Air-to-gas mixture, blocked burner ports, or a misaligned burner cap
  • "My induction zone shuts off after a few minutes" Cooling fan blockage, thermal cutout, or a failing coil and inverter board
  • "The touch controls ignore me or turn on by themselves" Cracked or moisture-trapped glass touch panel, or a bad control board ribbon
  • "One radiant element stays cold while the others heat" Open heating element, burned terminal block, or a failed infinite switch

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Make sure the breaker is fully on, since a half-tripped double breaker can kill one side of an electric cooktop.
  • 2Check that other gas appliances still light, which tells you whether the problem is the cooktop or the gas supply.
  • 3Pull off the burner caps and grates and look for spilled food packing the tiny flame ports.
  • 4On induction, confirm the pan is magnetic by sticking a fridge magnet to its base before assuming the zone is dead.

Cooktop Repair — quick answers

Is a cracked glass cooktop worth repairing?

Sometimes. A chip at the edge may be cosmetic, but a crack through the surface lets spills reach the elements and wiring underneath, which is a shock and short risk. We inspect the crack, test what still works, and tell you honestly whether a glass replacement makes sense.

Why does my gas burner keep clicking after it lights?

The spark module usually thinks the flame is missing. A wet or greasy igniter, a cracked ceramic electrode, or a burner cap sitting slightly off can all cause it. We clean and reseat the parts first, then test the module before replacing anything.

Do you work on induction cooktops?

Yes. Induction failures tend to be electronic: inverter boards, coils, fans, and temperature sensors. We diagnose which zone circuit is out and check ventilation underneath, since a blocked cabinet or dusty fan makes zones cut out under load.

Can hard water damage a cooktop?

Indirectly, yes. Boil-overs from mineral-heavy water leave scale that bakes onto glass and packs gas ports. On sealed burners that scale traps moisture near igniters. Wiping spills while the surface is warm, not hot, keeps the buildup manageable.

How long does a typical cooktop repair take?

Many visits are handled in one trip when the failed part is a common igniter, element, switch, or valve. Control boards and glass surfaces for specific models sometimes need ordering, so we confirm the part number on site and schedule the return.

Should I keep using a cooktop with one dead burner?

For electric, usually yes, though a burned terminal block can worsen. For gas, stop if you smell gas or see a flame lifting off the burner. Shut off the supply and call us; unlit gas flowing into a kitchen is not something to wait out.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form. Describe what you hear, smell or see. Odd noise, standing water, no heat. Have the model number handy if you can reach it.

  2. Step 2

    We schedule a visit

Pick a window that fits your day. We confirm the address and ask a few questions first, so the van carries parts that commonly fail on your machine.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose and repair

Our technician tests the machine, explains what failed, and lays out the repair options. Many jobs finish the same visit. Special-order parts get scheduled before we leave.

Ask these of anyone you let into your home — us included. Call and we'll answer all five before you book anything.

  • 1Ask for their license numberThen verify it with your state licensing board rather than taking it on trust.
  • 2Ask for proof of insuranceLiability cover protects you if something goes wrong in your home.
  • 3Get the quote in writingIncluding the trip fee, whether it's credited against the repair, and parts.
  • 4Ask how they handle callbacksIf the same fault returns, what happens? Get the answer before work begins.

Why homeowners call us

  • Hard water knowledgeSacramento Valley minerals scale up heating elements, valves and spray arms. We look for buildup, not just broken parts. Clearing scale and replacing clogged components keeps dishwashers and washers from failing the same way again.
  • Heat pump dryersNewer heat pump dryers dry differently and fail differently. Clogged condensers, blocked drains and long cycle times all have causes. We service these units and vented models alike, and explain what the machine needs.
  • Statewide coverageBased in North Highlands, working across California. Coastal humidity, valley heat and desert dust each stress appliances in their own way. We factor local conditions into the diagnosis instead of guessing.
  • Straight answersSome machines are worth repairing. Some are not. We tell you which, based on the failed part, the age of the unit and what else is likely to go. Then you decide.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
