Ice Maker Repair — Book a Visit Today

Ice makers quit for boring reasons. A water inlet valve clogged with California scale. A frozen fill tube. A dead ejector motor. A thermistor that reads the wrong temperature and never starts a harvest. Sometimes the whole unit works fine and the water line under the house is kinked or frozen. Our visit starts with the simple stuff: water pressure, line condition, freezer temperature, then the module and its harvest cycle. We test rather than guess, explain what we found in plain words, and carry common parts for major brands as an independent shop. Hollow cubes, cloudy cubes, small cubes, no cubes at all — each points somewhere different. Call us and describe what your ice looks like. That detail helps.

Ice Maker Repair — residential ice maker being serviced

The ice maker symptoms we hear most

  • No ice at all, everything else works Inlet valve, frozen fill tube, or failed ice maker module
  • Cubes are hollow or tiny Low water pressure or a partly blocked supply line
  • Water pools in the bottom of the bin and freezes solid Leaking valve, tilted unit, or a drain issue
  • Ice tastes like the freezer smells Old filter, absorbed odors, stale cubes sitting too long
  • Grinding or clunking every couple of hours Ejector arm binding on ice or a worn gear set

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Confirm the ice maker arm or switch is in the on position, since a bump can shut it off.
  • 2Look behind the fridge for a crimped or pinched water line.
  • 3Check that the freezer sits near zero degrees, because warm freezers stall the harvest cycle.
  • 4Note when the water filter was last changed and whether flow at the dispenser is weak.

Ice Maker Repair — quick answers

Why does our ice smell bad?

Ice absorbs odors. Old cubes sitting for weeks pick up whatever is in the freezer. A stale filter adds its own taste. Dump the bin, wash it, replace the filter, and make a fresh batch before assuming the unit is broken.

Does hard water hurt an ice maker?

It does. Much of California runs hard, and mineral scale builds inside inlet valves, fill tubes, and molds. Scale slows fill, shrinks cubes, and sticks them in place. Descaling and filter changes help. Sometimes a scaled valve needs replacing.

Is it worth repairing or should we replace the fridge?

Depends on the fridge's age and what failed. A valve or module swap is routine work on a unit with years left. If the sealed system is failing too, we say so and let you weigh replacement without pressure.

How long until ice comes back after a repair?

Most ice makers need several hours to reach temperature and complete a first harvest. Toss the first batch or two. If the bin is still empty after a full day, call us back so we can recheck the cycle.

Can you work on standalone and undercounter ice machines?

Yes. Undercounter and freestanding units use different controls, pumps, and drain paths than a refrigerator's built-in maker. Bring us the model number when you call us. Parts availability varies by design, and we will tell you honestly what we find.

Why did our ice maker stop after a power outage?

Control boards sometimes lock up or lose their cycle position. Unplug the refrigerator for five minutes, then restore power. If nothing changes, a board or module may have taken a surge hit and will need testing.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form. Describe what you hear, smell or see. Odd noise, standing water, no heat. Have the model number handy if you can reach it.

  2. Step 2

    We schedule a visit

Pick a window that fits your day. We confirm the address and ask a few questions first, so the van carries parts that commonly fail on your machine.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose and repair

Our technician tests the machine, explains what failed, and lays out the repair options. Many jobs finish the same visit. Special-order parts get scheduled before we leave.

Ask these of anyone you let into your home — us included. Call and we'll answer all five before you book anything.

  • 1Ask for their license numberThen verify it with your state licensing board rather than taking it on trust.
  • 2Ask for proof of insuranceLiability cover protects you if something goes wrong in your home.
  • 3Get the quote in writingIncluding the trip fee, whether it's credited against the repair, and parts.
  • 4Ask how they handle callbacksIf the same fault returns, what happens? Get the answer before work begins.
  • 5Check their own reviewsLook the business up independently — their Google profile, not just what they tell you.

Why homeowners call us

  • Hard water knowledgeSacramento Valley minerals scale up heating elements, valves and spray arms. We look for buildup, not just broken parts. Clearing scale and replacing clogged components keeps dishwashers and washers from failing the same way again.
  • Heat pump dryersNewer heat pump dryers dry differently and fail differently. Clogged condensers, blocked drains and long cycle times all have causes. We service these units and vented models alike, and explain what the machine needs.
  • Statewide coverageBased in North Highlands, working across California. Coastal humidity, valley heat and desert dust each stress appliances in their own way. We factor local conditions into the diagnosis instead of guessing.
  • Straight answersSome machines are worth repairing. Some are not. We tell you which, based on the failed part, the age of the unit and what else is likely to go. Then you decide.
  • All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
  • Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
